Why tennis? The inspiration behind the On Court collection
Tennis has always been our reference. How Rafa Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and the values of Spanish tennis inspired the On Court collection by Santofimia.
From neighbourhood to court: how tennis came into our lives
We are Gonzalo and Marcos Chueca Santofimia. Two brothers from Pozoblanco, Córdoba, who have grown up doing sport for as long as we can remember. Football in the neighbourhood, basketball at school, swimming in summers. But tennis always had something different.
We started playing as children, on the municipal courts in our town, with borrowed rackets and no coach. We were not prodigies. We were two kids who found in that sport something the others did not have: the demand of being there alone, against the other side of the net, with no team to save you, no partner to blame. Just you, your racket, and the decision you make on every point.
What tennis gives you that other sports do not
Tennis teaches you to lose without excuses. When you lose a football match you can say the goalkeeper failed or the referee called it wrong. In tennis, no. Every point that goes is yours. There is something brutal and something honest about that which we have not found in any other sport.
It also teaches you to build. A game is a unit of small decisions. Each shot depends on the one before. Strategy is not improvised on the court — it is constructed from the first serve. That has shaped us as people and as founders of a brand: the idea that what is worth having requires planning, patience, and a willingness to get things wrong.
The mental consistency that tennis demands at a competitive level does not come from one afternoon. It is built over thousands of hours on court. That is what we want the Santofimia pieces to carry.
The Nadal-Alcaraz generation and why it matters to us
Spain has a unique sporting phenomenon: two world-class tennis players active at the same time, in overlapping eras. Rafa Nadal is objectively the greatest of all time on clay — 14 Roland Garros titles, 22 Grand Slams in total. Carlos Alcaraz is the heir who does not copy his game but evolves it: faster, more explosive, with a backhand Rafa never had.
We grew up following Rafa. We watched his first Roland Garros in 2005 when we were young. We watched the Wimbledon 2008 match against Federer that many consider the greatest of all time. And then, when it seemed the cycle was closing, Alcaraz appeared to remind us that Spanish tennis is not a historical accident — it is a way of understanding the game.
The Paris 2024 Olympics were the trigger for the On Court collection. Spain winning the tennis doubles with Alcaraz and Rafa was a moment very few people will be able to say they lived through. That level of emotional intensity is exactly the kind of thing we want recorded in a piece of clothing.
Why padel is also in the collection DNA
Padel has exploded in Spain over the past ten years. We have been playing it since before it became fashionable, on the courts in Pozoblanco and later in Madrid. What we love about padel is its social component: it is a sport you play with friends, that mixes intensity with good humour, that allows people of very different levels to play together.
The On Court collection draws on both tennis and padel because both share an aesthetic that is what we want for Santofimia: serious but not rigid, technical but wearable in daily life.
The On Court collection: how each piece was born
The On Court collection has three pieces in its first edition. Each has a specific reason to exist — they are not variations on the same concept.
King Heir Tee. The most conceptual of the three. The back graphic makes direct reference to the generational shift in Spanish tennis. It is the piece that generates the most conversation because it requires the person wearing it to understand the reference.
Tenacity Tee. The most calm. Its name comes from the consistency that tennis demands at a competitive level. The design is more contained, built for someone who wants the aesthetic without the explicit message. The straight silhouette and clean drape make it the most versatile of the three.
Classic Tee. The reference piece. The base of the Santofimia family sportswear wardrobe. The easiest to combine, the one that works in any context without demanding extra attention.
All three are limited editions. We do not manufacture for stock. We manufacture so that whoever owns one of these pieces knows not everyone is wearing it.

What is the Santofimia On Court collection?
On Court is the first collection by Santofimia, a Spanish tennis and padel clothing brand with a family identity. It was born after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and consists of three limited edition t-shirts: the King Heir Tee, Tenacity Tee, and Classic Tee.
Can the pieces be used to actually play tennis, or are they lifestyle only?
Both. The cotton and cut allow them to be worn on court without any issue. But the aesthetic is designed to work just as well in everyday life.
Do you restock the pieces?
No. Each edition has a limited number of units and is not restocked. When it sells out, that version is gone. We may make future editions of the same piece with variations, but we never restock the exact same one.
Why a tennis brand and not another sport?
Because tennis is the sport that has shaped us most as people and as a family. Also because we believe tennis has its own aesthetic — a recognisable way of dressing — that was not well represented in the Spanish lifestyle sportswear market at an accessible price.
